Trish Lake - Executive Producer
Trish Lake is an independent producer and the principal of Freshwater Productions, a business she established in 1991 to pursue her commercial and creative interests in the fields of film, television and publishing. In a career spanning three decades, beginning as an ABC journalist, Trish has gained an remarkable depth and breadth of experience in all facets of the media, communications and entertainment industries.
While Freshwater maintains an active literary agency and strong links in the publishing arena, in recent years the film industry has become the central focus of Trish’s activities. Her work in this field encompasses project identification, development, creative producing, executive producing, financing and hands-on filmmaking.
Her passion is developing and producing documentary and feature films, and – through the Screen Producers’ Association of Australia (“SPAA”) – the improvement of industry opportunities in Australia.
In 2001 she established Freshwater Pictures to develop and produce feature films and television drama. Three years later, she won the prestigious SPAA 2004 Feature Film, Producer of the Year Award for her first feature film, Gettin’ Square.
Freshwater is producing the feature film Subdivision (currently in production in Hervey Bay, Queensland) (distributor: BVI/DIsney; International Sales, Lightning Entertainment) and two half-hour documentaries – Rare Chicken Rescue and Roller Derby Dolls for ABC Television / Film Australia. Trish is also the Executive Producer of the cinema documentary My America (Distributor Rialto; International Sales, Horizon Motion Pictures; SBSi) currently in pre-production. She recently negotiated the theatrical release with BVI/ Disney for the award-winning cinema documentary, Sharkwater, released in May 2008.
After serving for two years as a Feature Film Councillor on the SPAA Federal Council and two years as the SPAA Queensland Chapter Head, Trish’s industry standing has been reflected in her recent re-election for a third term, as SPAA National President.
As Executive Producer, Trish will be managing the theatrical release of The Burning Season worldwide.
