Sustainable palm oil

The Round table on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) intends to prevent bad practices in the industry and help to move it toward operating only on LCV land. There is a growing demand for palm oil and millions of people rely on the industry for their livelihood, so if it is to continue, sustainability is a key issue. Preventing the conversion of HCV and MCV forests into plantations by redirecting them to LCV land is a regional goal for most conservation organisations. An added advantage of developing plantations on land which has already been cleared is that no new land-clearing fires are encouraged.
